- Kangana Ranaut hit back at Baba Ramdev over his Gen Z remarks
- She told Ramdev not to give her character lessons and cited the Supreme Court
- The row began after Kangana called some young protesters Generation Gutter
"Baba ji don't day dream about my jawani or bedroom," actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut said in a sharp response to yoga guru Baba Ramdev. Her response came after the 60-year-old criticised her earlier remarks on Gen Z.
The exchange follows a controversy that began last month when Kangana described some young women and protesters as "Generation Gutter" and accused them of misusing freedom. After Ramdev questioned her education and past while responding to those remarks in an interview, Kangana hit back on Instagram Stories on Wednesday, bringing up the Supreme Court's 2024 action against him and Patanjali in the misleading advertisements case.
Kangana responded on Instagram Stories on Wednesday, saying, "Baba ji don't daydream about my jawani or bedroom. One can only assume based on rumours and gossip. Atleast mujhe kabhi Supreme Court se fatkar nahi lagi for false/fraud efficacy claims (I never got scolded by the Supreme Court) based on hard facts not some gossip or assumptions."
She added, "So don't give me character lessons. Tumse toh bahut zyada behtar hai mera character (My character is far better than yours), no fraud detected here."
Earlier, Baba Ramdev was asked about Kangana's comments on Gen Z during an event. Speaking to TV9, he said, "What was her childhood like? What was her youth like? What were her past accomplishments like? I don't want to talk about such people. Calling the youth 'generation gutter' is a sign of a corrupted mind." He reportedly also said the statement reflected a "spoilt mind" and urged her political party to take note of it.
How did the row start?
The row began with a series of posts by Kangana reacting to videos from the NEET Jantar Mantar protests. In one post, she wrote, "Never in my life have I seen so much ugliness in one place. These reels from Gen Z protests are puke-inducing. The way they speak and the kind of language they are using... never in my life have I seen everything in each and every frame so jarring and so crass all at once."
She went on to allege that the protesters were misusing the freedom they enjoyed and accused them of glorifying substance abuse while depending on their parents financially.
Kangana also wrote, "I call them Generation Gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer to the system. They are not good at studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can't even be homemakers." Her remarks drew widespread criticism online.
She had also labelled certain young protesters and women as "westernised gutter", accusing them of adopting westernised mindsets. Later, she clarified that she had not made a blanket statement about the protest at Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG paper leak and that she had "specifically referred to some people or some women".
Supreme Court reference
The reference Kangana made to Ramdev and the Supreme Court goes back to 2024. Baba Ramdev and Patanjali managing director Acharya Balkrishna were summoned by the Supreme Court after the company defied an earlier order on misleading advertising. They were asked to explain why contempt action should not be initiated against them for violating the court's orders prohibiting advertisements claiming to cure diseases and discrediting modern medicine.
Ramdev later issued an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for not complying with its order in the misleading advertisements case.
