A 17-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her father with a wooden cattle peg after she tried to intervene in a family dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district. The accused has been arrested, police told India Today.

According to the police, the altercation began over the sale of cow dung cakes, leading to a heated argument between Rajesh Yadav and his sister-in-law. The verbal spat soon escalated into a physical confrontation.

As the situation spiralled out of control, Rajesh's 17-year-old daughter stepped in to stop the fight. Police said the accused first pushed his daughter, causing her to fall to the ground.

The accused then picked up a wooden peg used for tethering cattle and struck the victim on the head in a fit of rage. The blow left the teenager critically injured, with severe bleeding from her head and ear.

Family members immediately rushed her to a nearby private hospital. Given the seriousness of her injuries, doctors referred her to a hospital in Varanasi for advanced treatment. However, the 17-year-old succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the city.

The teenager's death plunged the family into mourning. According to her relatives, the victim had recently enrolled in a bachelor's degree course and was looking forward to continuing her education.

Following a complaint lodged by the family, police registered a case against Rajesh and arrested him. Officials said further legal proceedings are underway, and the exact sequence of events is being investigated.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with residents expressing grief over the tragic death of a young girl who was allegedly trying to prevent a family dispute from escalating.
