Tamil Nadu to retain existing NEET UG counselling process despite MCC's new AIQ rules

Tamil Nadu has clarified that its NEET UG 2026 MBBS and BDS counselling process will remain unchanged despite the Medical Counselling Committee's new AIQ guidelines. The state said any future policy changes will be announced well in advance.

The Tamil Nadu Selection Committee has clarified that the state will continue with its existing MBBS and BDS counselling procedures for the 2026-27 academic session, despite recent changes introduced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (AIQ) admissions.

The clarification comes after the MCC introduced several updates to the AIQ counselling process, including the categorisation of candidates into Freeze and Float options, online document verification for Float candidates, and a digital seat resignation system.

Tamil Nadu authorities said these changes apply only to AIQ admissions and will not affect the state's counselling process for the current academic session.

STATE COUNSELLING PROCESS REMAINS UNCHANGED

According to the Selection Committee, Tamil Nadu's existing counselling framework already incorporates several features that are similar to the newly introduced MCC guidelines.

Candidates are required to upload their certificates during the application process, following which the documents undergo centralised verification. Original certificates are verified only when candidates report to their allotted colleges to complete the admission formalities.

The committee also reiterated that the state's counselling procedure for MBBS and BDS admissions will continue without any modifications for the 2026-27 academic session.

Future policy changes to be announced in advance

The Selection Committee said any decision to align the state's counselling process with future national guidelines would be taken only after carefully evaluating what is in the best interest of students.

It assured candidates that any policy changes introduced in future academic sessions would be announced well in advance to avoid confusion.

SEAT RESIGNATION ONLY THROUGH ONLINE PORTAL

The committee further reminded candidates that those wishing to surrender or resign from an allotted seat must complete the process through the official online counselling portal. Offline resignation requests will not be accepted.

Candidates have also been advised to regularly visit the official counselling portal for updates on counselling schedules, seat allotments and other important announcements.
