An FIR has been registered against an Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer and three others for allegedly abusing and assaulting a police inspector and his colleagues during a late-night inspection at a pub in Bengaluru, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at around 1.30 am on October 10 during a surprise inspection at a pub within the Cubbon Park police station limits. The complaint was filed by a police inspector who has been attached to the CCB Special Investigation Squad for the past six months.
According to the FIR, the inspection was carried out on the night of October 9 after the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner ordered checks on suspicious persons at bars and restaurants late at night within the jurisdictions of Cubbon Park and Ashok Nagar police stations. The inspector, along with other officers and staff, visited the pub and began checking customers' identity cards to verify their ages.
Police said four people then allegedly picked a quarrel with the inspector over a trivial issue and abused him and his colleagues. In his complaint, the inspector named Vikas Marmat, Abhay Udaysingh, Nithish and Roshan, and alleged that they obstructed him from discharging his official duties, abused and assaulted police personnel, and threatened them.
A case has been registered against the four at Cubbon Park police station under Sections 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, 351(2) for criminal intimidation, 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, 132 for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty, and 3(5) for common intention of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said. Further investigation is underway.
Police said the case relates to allegations that the four men interfered with a late-night pub inspection, assaulted and abused personnel on duty, and threatened them during the checking drive in Bengaluru.
