A man on Friday allegedly poisoned his four-year-old twin daughters and drowned them in a well in Telangana's Karimnagar district after he was upset over the birth of girls. Police said the accused had frequent disputes with his wife since the birth of their twin daughters and wanted a son.

The accused, Kachhu Srisailam, a private employee, was married six years ago, and he had twin daughters, Geethanshi and Geethanvika, both aged four.

Srisailam was reportedly unhappy that both his children were girls and frequently argued with his wife over the issue, despite earlier interventions by family members to resolve the disputes.

On Friday, Srisailam again picked up a quarrel with her over the same matter. Later, in a horrific act, he allegedly forced his twin daughters to consume pesticide before throwing them into a well, where they drowned.

Locals caught hold of Srisailam, thrashed him and handed him over to the police. The body of one child was recovered from the well, while search operations are ongoing to locate the second girl.

Karimnagar Rural Circle Inspector A Niranjan Reddy is investigating the case.
