Just minutes before the highly anticipated Ramayana panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, producer Namit Malhotra announced that the film's trailer would no longer be released globally on July 24 as originally planned. While he did not cite a reason for the decision, the announcement came amid ongoing student protests in India, prompting speculation online about the timing of the postponement.

The announcement came as a surprise to fans, who were expecting the trailer to drop online shortly after its exclusive Comic-Con premiere. Instead, Malhotra revealed that the worldwide launch had been postponed to a later date.

Malhotra issued a statement and in the concluding lines, he referenced the country's youth, writing, "I thank all the fans and the believers of Ramayana for helping make this happen. The youth of our country are our future. Let's all do the best we can to protect our future."

He concluded his message with, "Jai Hind."

The announcement came just ahead of Namit Malhotra's appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 alongside director Nitesh Tiwari and lead stars Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. The team was joined by host Coy Jandreau, where they spoke about the film and unveiled an exclusive first look at the Ramayana trailer.

The statement comes in the wake of the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) led student protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The movement emerged in the wake of the NEET 2026 paper leak and has evolved into a larger campaign against repeated examination irregularities. Students are demanding greater transparency and accountability in the examination system, stronger safeguards against paper leaks, comprehensive reforms, compensation for affected candidates and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protests reached a major turning point with the Chalo Sansad march in Delhi on July 20. Thousands of students gathered at Jantar Mantar before attempting to march towards Parliament, where clashes broke out after police stopped the procession.

Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor and Arun Govil among others, is slated to release on Diwali 2026.
