IIT Patna student seeks uniform police SOPs in Supreme Court

Toshiwa Yadav, an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna student who was injured during the protest at Jantar Mantar against the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, has filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court.

The application seeks the formulation and implementation of uniform, nationwide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing police action. It also seeks mandatory display of name badges on police uniforms and requests medical treatment for those injured during the protest.

SEEKS UNIFORM SOPs FOR POLICE ACTION

According to the application, the matter is likely to be heard on Monday along with other petitions related to the case. The Supreme Court has already directed the Delhi government to provide adequate medical facilities to those injured during the protest. The next hearing is scheduled for August 3, 2026.

Yadav, 27, sustained injuries during police action at the student protest held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 20, 2026. His intervention application also seeks public and uniform SOPs for crowd control, mandatory display of nameplates or identification numbers by police personnel, and immediate medical examination and treatment for the injured.
