Ahmedabad Police have launched a search for a prisoner serving a life sentence who escaped from Sabarmati Central Jail. An FIR regarding the incident was filed by the jailer at Rakhial police station.

According to the FIR filed by Group 2 jailer Babu Bhai Prajapati, the prisoner, identified as Manuji Thakor, 36, was serving a life sentence for murder. Thakor, a resident of Patan, was sent to the jail hospital outside the prison on January 10 at 4:45 pm due to illness. He was escorted by constable Pradyumn Singh Chauhan.

The FIR reads, “By 5:30 pm, Thakor had not returned to the prison. Constable Pradyumn Singh Chauhan, along with Vanes Singh, informed the jailer about the situation.”

Following the report, the jail authorities conducted a headcount of inmates in the open jail, where 14 prisoners were housed. “After the headcount, it was confirmed that one prisoner was missing. The missing prisoner was identified as Manuji Thakor,” the FIR noted.

Jail officials searched the premises and nearby areas but failed to locate Thakor. The jailer subsequently informed senior officials and filed a complaint with the local police station.

The Rakhial police confirmed that teams are working to trace the prisoner. “We have searched nearby areas and reviewed CCTV footage. Assistance from other agencies has also been sought. Efforts are underway to apprehend the escaped prisoner soon,” a police officer stated.
