A hidden CCTV camera installed to solve the mystery of disappearing women's underwear in Bengaluru has led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man. According to the police, Abdul Husain, a 23-year-old originally from Assam, stole women's undergarments from residential terraces, wore them overnight and returned them the next day before stealing a fresh pair.
The bizarre case came to light in Hoysala Nagar after two women noticed an unusual pattern in their laundry.
They claimed that freshly washed undergarments left out to dry would mysteriously disappear overnight. Stranger still, the garments that had gone missing would reappear the following day in the same place, only for another fresh pair to vanish.
Puzzled by the repeated incidents, the women installed a hidden CCTV camera on their terrace.
At around 3 am on July 2, the camera captured the accused climbing onto the terrace.
The footage showed him placing back an undergarment he had taken earlier, picking up a fresh one and leaving with it.
He was also seen engaging in sexually inappropriate behaviour with the garment before fleeing.
Based on the CCTV footage, police tracked down and arrested Husain.
A senior police officer said the accused appeared to have a psychological fetish and allegedly displayed female behavioural tendencies.
"He used to steal women's undergarments, wear them once, and then return the used ones while taking fresh ones. So far, we have confirmed two such incidents. The investigation is continuing to ascertain whether there were more similar cases," the officer said.
