Mahindra Group Chairperson Anand Mahindra had a rather witty response to a fan who suggested he build a powerful V8 or V10 engine before he died, even giving him a 20-year expiry date.

Pranesh Naidu, an X user, shared the post on October 15, addressing Mahindra as “Anand uncle” and saying he had been a fan since childhood. He then made an unusual pitch for a powerful engine, suggesting that Mahindra should build a Scorpio with a small-block V8 engine producing 500 horsepower.

“You’re probably going to be dead in 20 years,” Naidu wrote, before adding that Mahindra should make the engine so he could leave behind something remarkable.

Mahindra responded with a tongue-in-cheek reply, thanking Naidu for being a fan but jokingly objecting to the confidence with which he had predicted his lifespan. He said he had hoped to stick around for longer than another 20 years, even if that would count as a respectable innings.

Before getting into a discussion about V8 engines, Mahindra had one request for his fan: “Could I persuade you to extend my warranty?”

His playful response received a whole lot of praise from social media users, with several appreciating the humour and grace with which he handled the unusual message.

One user praised Anand Mahindra for responding with humility despite the comment about his death, while another called him a gentleman and wished him a long life.

A third commenter joined in with an automotive reference of their own, joking that Pranesh had forgotten he was “built like a Bolero” and that 20 years would be “just the first free service."
