A 20-year-old NEET aspirant was found dead at his residence in Hyderabad on October 28. As per sources, he had been experiencing mental distress for the past two months after failing to secure a rank in the medical entrance examination, despite undergoing long-term coaching.
The victim, identified as Mohammed Riyan, lived with his family in Hyderabad’s Yakutpura area. He had appeared for the NEET examination in June this year.
On Wednesday afternoon, Riyan's parents left home to visit relatives who had been admitted to a hospital due to ill health. They returned around 2.30 pm and went to check on their son. However, they found his bedroom locked from the inside.
When repeated attempts to open the door failed, the family broke the lock and entered the room. They then searched for Riyan and found him hanging from an iron ventilator in the attached bathroom.
His father, Abdul Gafoor, immediately cut the rope and brought him down before moving him to the bed. However, Riyan had already died by then.
Following the incident, Gafoor approached the local police and lodged a complaint. Based on his complaint, police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and initiated an investigation.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the death and the events leading up to the incident.
