A 41-year-old Mumbai Police constable deployed on security duty outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra reportedly collapsed after his health suddenly deteriorated and was declared dead after being taken to hospital, officials said on Saturday.

The incident occurred outside Galaxy Apartments, where security arrangements for the actor remain heightened round-the-clock. The constable was identified as Ganesh Rayte, attached to the Mumbai Police’s LA-4 unit.

According to preliminary information, Rayte was on duty around 6 pm on Friday when he suddenly felt unwell and collapsed at the spot.

Fellow police personnel immediately rushed him to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Initial indications suggest he suffered a heart attack, though officials are expected to confirm the exact cause after completion of the required medical procedures.

Rayte was part of the security deployment outside Galaxy Apartments, Salman Khan’s long-time residence in Bandra.

His sudden death has cast a shadow over the police department and renewed concerns over the health and working conditions of personnel assigned to sensitive security duties that often require prolonged alertness and long hours.

Security around Salman Khan’s residence was significantly strengthened in 2024 following threats issued by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and the shooting incident outside the actor’s home in April that year.

Mumbai Police increased surveillance in the area, deployed additional personnel and enhanced monitoring around Galaxy Apartments as part of a broader security protocol.

Police are currently completing the procedural formalities related to Rayte’s death, including documentation and medical reports.

Senior officers are expected to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, while colleagues and officials have expressed condolences to the constable’s family as the department awaits the final medical findings.
