Centre appoints 1989-batch IAS officer Anurag Jain as NITI Aayog CEO for 2 years

A senior administrator with nearly four decades of experience, Jain has held several key positions in the Centre and Madhya Pradesh and will lead the government's top public policy think tank.

The Centre on Wednesday appointed senior IAS officer Anurag Jain, a 1989-batch officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog for a period of two years.

The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). According to an official order, Jain will assume charge with immediate effect and serve for the duration of his approved extension in service. Thereafter, he will continue as CEO for an overall period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Anurag Jain, IAS (MP:1989), as Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog, with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, till his approved tenure of extension in service and thereafter, for an overall period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the ACC order said.

The order further stated that Jain's appointment will be on the same terms and conditions as those applicable to his predecessor.

A seasoned administrator with nearly four decades of experience, Jain has held several key positions in both the Union government and the Government of Madhya Pradesh. During his career, he has been associated with a range of policy and administrative initiatives, particularly in infrastructure development, industrial growth and governance reforms.

As the CEO of NITI Aayog, the Centre's premier public policy think tank, Jain will oversee efforts to promote cooperative and competitive federalism, support evidence-based policymaking and facilitate the implementation of key national development priorities.
