Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday flagged off a batch of 72 government school teachers heading to Finland for advanced training, saying the initiative would further strengthen the state’s education system and help bring global best practices into classrooms.
Wishing the teachers success for the programme, Mann said the exposure to internationally recognised teaching methods would help improve learning outcomes in Punjab’s government schools. The teachers will undergo training at the globally acclaimed University of Turku in Finland till May 29.
The chief minister said that Punjab’s government schools were now performing better than private schools in board examination results and said the state’s education reforms were producing visible results. He added that the government’s focus on teacher training, modern classrooms and academic reforms had helped transform the education sector in Punjab.
According to CM Mann, lakhs of parents are now voluntarily attending parent-teacher meetings introduced by the present government, reflecting growing trust in government schools.
The training programme in Finland will expose teachers to modern teaching methods, innovative classroom practices and student-centric learning models. The teachers will also study Finland’s education system, which is known for its focus on conceptual learning, critical thinking and minimal rote learning.
CM Mann said the initiative was not just a ceremonial foreign visit but a structured learning programme aimed at bringing practical innovations into Punjab classrooms. The training will also focus on collaborative teaching techniques, classroom engagement, assessment reforms and the use of technology in education.
Describing teachers as “nation builders”, the chief minister said the government was rebuilding the educational ecosystem from the ground up and ensuring that teachers receive global exposure and future-ready skills.
He also cited recent educational indicators released by NITI Aayog, claiming Punjab had performed strongly across several school education parameters, including Mathematics, Science and language proficiency, besides smart school infrastructure and digital learning facilities.
Mann further said teachers who had attended similar international training programmes earlier had introduced more interactive and student-friendly learning practices in classrooms, leading to improved academic performance in government schools.
