A woman constable was found dead in her room at the Police Lines in Agra on Saturday, with her body hanging from the ceiling. The woman, identified as Aarti, was posted at the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) office and belonged to the 2018 batch.
Aarti, who was originally from Unnao, had been on a month's leave and was scheduled to return to duty on November 4.
According to the police, Aarti had not come out of her room for several hours on Saturday morning. When neighbours knocked on her door and received no response, they alerted the police.
Police broke open the door and found her body hanging inside the room.
Aarti was unmarried and had reportedly been experiencing depression for some time. During her leave, she mostly stayed inside her room. Neighbours said they last saw her on Karwa Chauth.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and informed her family.
Although initial reports suggested that a suicide note had been found, ACP Lohamandi Gaurav Singh clarified that no note was recovered from the scene.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
