Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Tuesday released its first list of 35 candidates for the upcoming state Assembly elections.

The JMM, who reached a seat-sharing pact with its INDIA bloc partners, announced the names of the candidates in a post on X. Chief Minister and party supremo Hemant Soren will be contesting the Barhet Assembly seat, while his wife Kalpana Murmu Soren has been fielded from the Gandey Assembly constituency, the post said.

Among others who have been given a party ticket are MT Raja from Rajmahal, Dhananjay Soren from Boreo, Stephen Marandi from Maheshpur, Alok Soren from Shikaripada, Basant Soren from Dumka, Vikas Munda from Tamar to name a few.

Sharing the pictures of the candidate list, the post from the JMM's official X handle said "Hearty congratulations to all the candidates".

The ruling party's first list came three days after Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that a consensus was reached on seat-sharing within the INDIA bloc for the Assembly elections.

Soren said that the INDIA bloc partners, consisting of Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and the Left parties, will contest the upcoming polls together. The Congress and the JMM will field candidates in 70 of 81 seats, he said.

“We have considered all aspects and perspectives, and we are moving forward as an alliance,” said Soren. “In the first phase, it has been decided that 70 candidates will contest. The remaining 11 seats will be finalised after further consultations with our partners.”

On Monday, the Congress announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly election. State Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon and senior Congress leader Ajoy Kumar are among the 21 candidates named by the party.

Two days prior to that, the BJP released its first list of candidates for the Jharkhand polls. Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi and JMM turncoats Champai Soren and Sita Soren were among the 66 candidates named by the party.

As per the list, Babulal Marandi will contest polls from Dhanwar seat, while Champai Soren is set to represent Saraikela. Sita Soren was fielded from Jamtara.

The Assembly polls for the 81 seats of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, and counting will take place on November 23.
