The counselling process for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 is likely to be delayed, with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) yet to approve the schedule due to the upcoming NEET re-examination on June 21.
TNEA 2026, conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) under the Higher Education Department, is a fully online process that includes registration, fee payment, certificate verification, choice filling, seat allotment and admission confirmation.
The application process began on May 3 and concluded on June 5.
According to a senior DOTE official, more than 3.02 lakh students have registered for TNEA 2026, while 2,45,220 candidates have uploaded their certificates for verification.
"Certificate verification has already begun. However, since the NEET re-exam is scheduled for June 21, AICTE has not yet approved the engineering counselling schedule," the official said.
Despite the uncertainty over counselling dates, the rank list is expected to be released on June 29 as planned.
Officials said that the counselling process can begin only after the completion of certificate verification and publication of the rank list.
Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan said a decision on whether to postpone the engineering counselling schedule would be taken within the next few days.
The minister told reporters that he would discuss the matter with the department secretary before announcing a revised counselling timetable.
With lakhs of engineering aspirants awaiting admission, students are now looking for clarity on the counselling schedule as authorities finalise the next steps following the NEET re-examination.
