A man was detained on Tuesday for allegedly running a fake court and delivering an order in connection with a land dispute in Gujarat. The matter came to light after the case was brought for hearing at Ahmedabad City Civil Court after a police complaint was filed.

According to police, the accused, identified as Morris Samuel Christian, has been passing 'judgements' since 2019, especially in land deals in the Gandhinagar area.

Christian had established a fake mediation centre in Ahmedabad and delivered an order on government land. Accused Morris Samuel Christian himself became a judge, the complaint stated.

He is accused of creating a fakery that fooled many people into believing that they were fighting their cases in an actual court. Christian delivered all the judgements in favour of his clients, the complaint added.

Christian made unsuspecting individuals entangled in land disputes his victims, promising them swift resolutions for hefty fees.

Police also said that Christian's associates also posed as court personnel, creating an impression of an authentic court to dupe his clients.

In 2019, Christian delivered an order favouring his client. The case related to government land while his client had staked a claim on it and wanted to add his name to revenue records related to the plot in the Paldi area.

Without an official order, Christian led his client into believing that he has been appointed as the "official arbitrator" by the government.

The fraudster was arrested, and his fake court was busted after, Hardik Desai, Registrar of City Civil Court, Bhadra lodged a complaint against Christian at the Karanj Police Station in Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, the police said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 170,419, 420, 465, 467, 471 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and that he was arrested.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
