A sweet shop owner in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur found himself at the centre of an unusual moment during a food safety raid when he refused to eat the sweets he had been selling, prompting officials to question their quality.

The incident took place after reports had surfaced about the sale of adulterated and spurious sweets.

Following the complaints, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), along with officials from the Food Department and police personnel, reached the shop to inspect the products and collect samples.

A video from the inspection later began circulating online, showing officials examining the sweets at the shop. At one point, a police officer appeared to pick up one of the sweets and offer it to the shop owner, seemingly asking him to eat it.

The shopkeeper, however, did not take the sweet. Despite being offered the product from his own shop, he refused to eat it and folded his hands, creating an awkward and unexpected moment during the inspection.

The refusal appeared to draw the attention of those around him, particularly because the sweets were the same products being sold to customers. The incident also prompted officials to take the matter more seriously and proceed with sampling the sweets for examination.

Following the inspection, samples of the sweets were collected by the authorities. The SDM also ordered that the sweets be discarded, amid concerns over their safety and the allegations of adulteration.

The video garnered attention online, with viewers pointing out the irony of a shopkeeper declining to eat his own products when asked to do so by officials.
