In August, a 24-year-old Mumbai woman was killed after a trailer truck struck her motorcycle on National Highway 30 in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district.

Riddhi Thakkar, who lived in Kandivali West, was part of a group of about 23 motorcyclists travelling from Mumbai to explore Bastar. Police have begun investigating the crash and are trying to trace the vehicle and identify its driver, who allegedly fled the scene.

Police said most members of the group had ridden ahead, while Thakkar and a few others were following behind. Between 5 am and 6 am, the trailer hit her motorcycle from the rear near Markatola Ghat on NH-30.

The collision flung Thakkar onto the road, leaving her critically injured. Emergency responders took her to a nearby health centre after being alerted to the accident.

Doctors administered initial treatment before referring her to Shriram Hospital in Dhamtari because of the seriousness of her injuries. She was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.

The trailer driver allegedly escaped with the vehicle following the collision. Police subsequently arrived at the site, opened an investigation and began efforts to locate the trailer and establish the driver's identity.
