A lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, with CCTV footage showing the attackers briefly struggling to flee as their motorcycle stalled after the killing.
The incident occurred in the Katwaru Ka Pura locality. The victim has been identified as advocate Rajeev Singh.
According to initial information, Singh had stepped out for his routine morning walk when a motorcycle-borne assailant approached him. The attacker got off the bike and fired at him from close range using a country-made pistol. Singh collapsed immediately and died on the spot.
CCTV footage of the attack has surfaced, capturing the sequence in detail. The visuals show the assailant waiting before moving in and opening fire at close range, while an accomplice remained seated on the motorcycle.
After the shooting, the attacker rushed back to the bike, but it failed to start for a few moments, delaying their escape. By then, some locals had begun to gather at the scene but were threatened by the gun accused had. The motorcycle eventually started, allowing the accused to flee.
The daylight killing has sparked panic in the area, with chaos reported among residents. The incident has also triggered anger among members of the legal community.
Police reached the spot after being alerted, took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. An investigation has been launched, and efforts are underway to identify the accused using CCTV footage.
