80-year-old retired engineer killed in temple lift accident in Karnataka
An 80-year-old retired engineer died after getting trapped beneath a lift at Dattatreya Swamy Temple in Karnataka's Shivamogga during Sunday morning prayers. Police have registered a case and are examining whether a mechanical fault or negligence led to the accident.

An 80-year-old retired engineer died after becoming trapped in a lift at Karnataka’s Dattatreya Swamy Temple in Shivamogga, during morning prayers on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Kumaraswamy, had visited the temple in Vinayak Nagar for his regular prayers. According to police, the incident occurred when he pressed the lift button and attempted to board it. He was allegedly caught beneath the lift, leading to fatal injuries.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel responded to the scene, rescued Kumaraswamy from beneath the lift and rushed him to McGann Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have registered an unnatural Death Report (UDR) at Jayanagar Police Station based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's wife, Lalitha Kumaraswamy. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether any mechanical fault or negligence contributed to the fatal accident.
