The office of the Delhi Mayor received a bomb threat email on Thursday, prompting an extensive security sweep and an investigation by Delhi Police and other security agencies.
According to officials, the threatening email was received on the official email ID of the Mayor's Office at the Dr. SP Mukherjee Civic Centre. The message warned of bomb blasts at several locations in Delhi and neighbouring areas of Haryana, including temples and railway tracks.
The email claimed that improvised explosive device (IED) attacks would be carried out on June 5 and 6 in Delhi, Chandigarh, Ambala and along railway routes. It also advised people not to travel during the period. The message referred to the 1984 Operation Blue Star and mentioned Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale while claiming the attacks would be carried out as an act of "revenge".
Several prominent temples were named in the threat, including Gauri Shankar Temple in Chandni Chowk, Kalkaji Temple, Yogmaya Temple in Mehrauli, Bhima Devi Temple in Panchkula, Kartikeya Temple and Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Kurukshetra.
The sender identified himself as being associated with the "Khalistan National Army". Officials said the email was sent on June 4 at around 9.40 am.
Following the threat, Delhi Police launched an immediate response. Teams from the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad conducted a comprehensive anti-sabotage inspection of the Civic Centre and surrounding areas. The entire building, including offices, common spaces and parking areas, was searched.
NO SUSPICIOUS OBJECT FOUND YET, PREMISES SAFE
Police later confirmed that no suspicious object or explosive material was found during the operation and the premises were declared safe. Additional security measures have been put in place, and personnel have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance.
Investigators are currently conducting a technical analysis to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. Security agencies are also examining the contents of the threat and coordinating with authorities in the locations mentioned in the message.
According to security agency sources, the email appears to be a hoax intended to create panic as of now. However, officials said the threat is being treated seriously until all aspects of the investigation are completed. Authorities have urged the public not to panic and to rely only on official updates.
NOT THE FIRST TIME
This is the second time this year that the Delhi Mayor's office received such an email. On April 1, 2026, the authorities received a threat letter on the same lines associating themselves with the "Khalistani National Army". Authorities, including police and bomb disposal teams, thoroughly inspected the Civic Centre and found no suspicious items.
Security measures were heightened with strict entry protocols and CCTV monitoring. Staff were instructed to report suspicious activity. The prompt, coordinated response ensured the building's safety and maintained control of the situation.
