Two boys beat a labourer to death with a stick after he allegedly refused to give them a 'beedi' in Gurugram, police said on Friday, according to news agency Press Trust of India.
The labourer, Pyare Lal, was from Madhya Pradesh and lived in Gurugram for work. He died from a head injury after the assault on Thursday, while the two boys were apprehended on Friday, a senior police officer told PTI.
Police received information about an injured man lying in Nihal Colony. A team reached the spot and took Lal to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
His family in Devarah village in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district was informed about his death. Lal lived in Surat Nagar in Gurugram and worked as a labourer, his sister said in her complaint to the police.
She said her nephew informed her on Thursday that two boys had assaulted Lal in Nihal Colony, resulting in his death. Based on her complaint, police registered a case at Bajghera police station.
Police detained the minors in Gurugram on Friday.
"During police interrogation, it came to light that the accused had asked the deceased for a 'beedi' and when Pyare Lal refused to give them one, an argument broke out between them. Following the argument and exchange of abuses, the accused allegedly assaulted Pyare Lal with a stick," the officer told PTI.
Police said Lal suffered a head injury in the assault, which led to his death. The two minors were caught a day after the incident.
