Kanpur trader objects to public urination, four men thrash him to death on road

Trader Amit Gupta was allegedly beaten by four men after he objected to them urinating outside a market. His family has demanded justice and protection, saying they remain frightened as no arrests have been made.

A trader in Kanpur died two days after four men assaulted him on a road after he objected to them urinating in front of a market and nearby houses.

Amit Gupta, an auto trader who had been standing outside a market when four men began urinating in front of the market. The men were reportedly heavily intoxicated.

Gupta requested them not to urinate there, telling them that houses were located in front of the spot. The men took offence to his objection and started beating him on the road.

The attackers knocked Gupta to the ground and beat him severely, causing an injury to his head. He lost consciousness at the spot, after which the men fled. His family received information about the incident and took him to a hospital.

Doctors treated Gupta, but he did not regain consciousness because of the severity of his head injury. He died two days after the assault.

Gupta was one of three brothers and three sisters. His mother had also died only a few days before the incident.

CCTV footage from outside the family’s house captured the assault. The footage shows the accused beating Gupta and continuing to assault him after he fell on the road. The family handed the CCTV footage to the police.

Despite having the CCTV footage, police registered a case only after 72 hours and have not arrested anyone so far. Police have registered the case against unidentified persons and said they would identify the people seen in the CCTV footage before taking action.

Police conducted Gupta’s post-mortem and handed his body over to the family.

Gupta’s wife Shalini Gupta, his sister Shivani and other family members said they were frightened because the accused had not yet been arrested.

Shalini said she was worried about the safety of her children. She said her children were afraid to even file a report because they had to use the same road. She demanded justice and asked police to ensure the safety of her children.

She questioned why anyone would kill a person merely for asking them not to urinate in front of a house and said the incident had destroyed her family.
