Former Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Ravindra Chavan was appointed as the working president of the party's state unit on Saturday.
Chavan, 54, a close aide of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, was a minister under the then Eknath Shinde-led Mahayuti government. He was dropped from the current cabinet, and it was speculated that he might replace Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who took charge as the revenue minister.
However, the four-time Dombivali MLA was named as the working president of Maharashtra BJP.
Chavan thanked Union Health Minister and BJP chief JP Nadda for his appointment.
"Thank you very much to everyone! BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda ji today entrusted me with the important responsibility of the post of BJP Maharashtra working president," he tweeted in Marathi.
Chavan was recently appointed as state in-charge of the Sangathan Parv campaign, aimed at expanding the party's membership drive.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra BJP will hold a one-day convention in Shirdi in Ahmednagar district on Sunday. Union Minister Amit Shah will address the event that is expected to be attended by around 15,000 workers.
In November last year, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance swept the Maharashtra Assembly elections, bagging 230 out of 288 seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 132 seats, followed by Shiv Sena 57 and NCP 41.
