Gangster Atiq Ahmed's son, on way to meet jailed brother, killed in road accident

Aban Ahmed died in a road accident in Jhansi while travelling to meet his jailed brother Ali. Police said the vehicle hit a highway divider, leaving another occupant dead and three people injured.

Aban Ahmed, the youngest of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's five sons, was killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi on Thursday while travelling to meet his jailed brother, police said.

According to the police, Aban and four others were travelling in the vehicle when it crashed into a highway divider. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the vehicle was completely mangled.

Aban and another occupant died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured and rushed to a hospital for treatment.

According to preliminary information, the group was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet Ali Ahmed, who is lodged in the Jhansi district jail after being shifted there from Naini Central Jail on October 1, 2025.

Ali has been in prison since surrendering in an extortion case. He is also accused in the February 2023 killing of Umesh Pal, the key witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, with investigators alleging that the conspiracy was orchestrated from inside the jail.

Following the killing of his father, Ali is believed by investigators to have taken charge of the criminal syndicate known as IS-227.

On April 5, 2023, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, named in more than 100 criminal cases including the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.
