In Short

  • Faissal said anger and pain drove remarks he now regrets deeply
  • Reading the Quran prompted him to reconnect and preserve family bonds
  • A call to sister Nikhat led to an emotional Mumbai meeting

Ahead of Aamir Khan's reported wedding, his brother Faissal Khan has apologised to the actor and their family, months after publicly levelling serious allegations against them. Admitting that speaking against his loved ones in public was a mistake, Faissal said he has apologised to Aamir, their mother, sister Nikhat and brother-in-law Santosh Hegde, adding that he now prioritises family harmony over past grievances.

Aamir is set to marry his partner, Gauri Spratt, on July 5.

During a recent conversation with Ujjwal Trivedi, Faissal openly acknowledged his mistakes for the first time after estranging his relationship with Aamir.

He revealed that he had apologised to his mother, brother Aamir, sister Nikhat and brother-in-law Santosh Hegde for making allegations against them publicly.

Faissal said, “I want to first apologise to my mother. I want to apologise to Nikhat. I want to apologise to Santosh. I also apologise to Aamir. In anger and pain, I said many things that I should never have said."

He also acknowledged that criticising his family in public was one of his biggest mistakes and said he now believes those issues should have been resolved privately through conversations with his loved ones rather than in the public eye.

Faissal further said that he no longer seeks answers or validation. Instead, his focus is on rebuilding relationships with his family. He explained that he no longer wants to prove whether he was right or someone else was wrong, adding that he values peace and harmony with his family more than establishing the truth.

He shared that reading the Quran inspired him to reconnect with his loved ones, reinforcing the importance of preserving family bonds.

Recalling the turning point, Faissal said he realised he had distanced himself from his own family and decided to take the first step towards reconciliation.

He revealed that when he first called his sister, Nikhat, she answered immediately. He later learned that his mother had been missing him, and hearing about her emotional state deeply moved him. The very next day, he flew to Mumbai to meet his family.

Faissal said he apologised to his mother after meeting her. He also met Aamir Khan and sought his forgiveness for speaking publicly about their family matters.

According to Faissal, after years of misunderstandings, his family welcomed him back with love and warmth. He said his mother, Nikhat, Santosh and Aamir accepted him, bringing an end to their long-standing grievances.

He added that moving forward, he hopes his family will trust, believe and understand him, noting that life is too short to hold on to past conflicts.

All about the controversy

The apology comes months after Faissal claimed on a podcast that Aamir had confined him to their Mumbai home for more than a year and alleged that his family falsely portrayed him as mentally ill.

During last year's Pinkvilla podcast, Faissal claimed, "Mujhe qaid kar ke rakha tha ghar mein ek saal (I was imprisoned at home for over a year) and they were saying I've got schizophrenia and I'm a mad person and I will harm society. JJ Hospital mein mujhe 20 din rakha gaya, test kiya gaya, general ward mein, mental logon ke saath (I was at JJ Hospital for 20 days, was tested in the general ward with 'mental' people)."

Following his allegations, Aamir Khan's family issued a statement expressing distress over what they described as Faissal's "hurtful and misleading portrayal" of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, sister Nikhat Hegde and brother Aamir.

The family said that every decision concerning Faissal had been made collectively after consulting multiple medical professionals. They maintained that the choices were guided by love, compassion and a commitment to supporting his emotional and psychological well-being. They also explained that this was why they had chosen not to publicly discuss what they described as a painful and difficult period for the family.

They further urged the media to approach the matter with empathy and sensitivity, requesting that it not be turned into sensational, inflammatory or hurtful gossip.

The statement was signed by several members of the Khan family, including Aamir's first wife Reena Dutta, son Junaid Khan, daughter Ira Khan, Kiran Rao, Santosh Hegde, Mansoor Khan, Imran Khan and others.

Following the family's statement, Faissal announced that he had severed ties with Aamir and the rest of the family and said he would no longer accept the monthly allowance provided by his brother.

On the professional front, Faissal Khan, who began his career as a child artiste in Pyar Ka Mausam (1969) and later starred alongside Aamir Khan in Mela (2000), is currently working on multiple scripts.
