The nephew of a BJP leader, 40-year-old Jitendra was killed by his friend in Haryana's Rewari after the accused suspected him of having an illicit relationship with his wife. Police have arrested the main accused, Praveen alias Papla, and his nephew Aman in connection with the murder.
Jitendra’s blood-soaked body was found on September 7 near the HPCL refinery on the deserted road leading towards Bhadawas. Police found deep injury marks on his head, indicating that a heavy weapon had been used in the attack.
Police said Praveen plotted the killing after developing suspicions about Jitendra and his wife. On September 7, he called Jitendra on the pretext of a beer party and first took him to a liquor shop. The two then went to a canal bridge, where they drank beer.
Praveen subsequently drove towards a deserted road near the HPCL refinery with Jitendra and his nephew Aman. When Jitendra stepped out of the vehicle, Praveen attacked him repeatedly on the head with an iron rod, killing him. Police said Aman kept watch during the attack.
A CCTV camera installed near the spot captured the incident, according to police.
Following the murder, SP Hemendra Kumar Meena directed police teams to investigate the case. The teams jointly worked on the case and detained Praveen alias Papla and Aman, based on suspicion raised by Jitendra’s family and technical evidence.
ASP Deepika Agrawal said Praveen confessed during questioning that he suspected Jitendra of having an illicit relationship with his wife.
Police produced both accused before a court, which sent them to three days of police remand. Police seeks to recover the vehicle and iron rod used in the murder.
