  • No exemptions allowed for tariffs on goods to US
  • Tariffs could disrupt global trade and strain relations

Amid rising tensions linked to the ongoing conflict, US President Donald Trump has issued a warning. He said that any country supplying military weapons to Iran could face steep tariffs on exports to the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said such countries would be “immediately tariffed” at 50% on all goods sold to the US. He added that there would be “no exclusions or exemptions”, signalling a hardline stance.

"A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions! President DJT," wrote Trump.

The warning has raised concerns about its wider impact. If implemented, such tariffs could disrupt global trade flows and strain relations between key economies.

At the same time, there has been a slight easing of tensions on the conflict front. Trump stepped back from earlier threats of major strikes against Iran and agreed to a two-week ceasefire. Iran has also accepted the truce and agreed to conditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.

According to Trump, the US has paused plans to target critical infrastructure after Iran proposed a “workable” peace plan. Further talks between the two sides are expected soon, offering a possible path towards de-escalation.

For now, markets and policymakers are likely to watch closely to see how the situation develops and whether this warning turns into concrete action.
