Former judge Giribala Singh, who spent years delivering verdicts from the bench and sending convicts to prison, is now behind bars in Bhopal Central Jail in connection with the death case of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma. She has been assigned prisoner number 71.

The retired judge and her son, Samarth, were sent to Bhopal Central Jail on Tuesday after a court remanded them to judicial custody.

According to jail sources, the former judge has been housed in the women's medical ward and assigned prisoner number 71.

Her son has been lodged in barrack number 4 and given prisoner number 1782.

In accordance with prison regulations, the jail administration has issued both inmates basic daily-use items, including a plate, a bowl and a bedsheet, as prescribed under the jail manual.

The development comes days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Giribala Singh on May 28. Her arrest came just hours after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail that had earlier been granted to the retired district judge in the case.

Samarth Singh was arrested a day before his mother.

Since taking over the investigation, the CBI has widened the scope of its probe and is examining multiple aspects of the circumstances surrounding the death of the 33-year-old, who was found hanging on May 12 in her marital home.

On Monday, the probe agency conducted a crime scene recreation at Twisha's residence aimed at understanding the last hours of Twisha's life.

As part of the exercise, the agency used an 80-kg dummy representing Twisha Sharma. The dummy was weighed on a weighing machine brought to the site before being used in the reconstruction.

Sources said the CBI also arranged two separate dummies of different heights to address discrepancies regarding Twisha's height mentioned in the postmortem report and statements made by her family.
