The accused, identified as Gnanaprakasam, allegedly attacked the family at their house after the 15-year-old girl told him that their relationship could not continue because her family disapproved of it, citing her young age, police said.

Thoothukudi SP Sivaprasad said the police had rescued both girls following the incident. He confirmed that Mary Regila died in the attack and that the accused had injured members of the family before abducting the two children.

According to the preliminary investigation, Gnanaprakasam was in a relationship with the elder daughter. Her parents opposed the relationship, following which it was called off. Police suspect that the accused attacked the family and abducted the girls in retaliation.
