Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stopped his convoy on Friday after a young para-athlete standing by the roadside caught his attention. She was waiting with a traditional Assamese gamusa and raised her hand to greet him as the convoy passed.

Sarma asked the convoy to halt and walked over to the girl, accepting the gamusa before speaking to her and her mother. A video of the interaction was shared on Instagram by Juhi Deka and has since gone viral on X.

In the heartwarming video, the girl’s mother told the Chief Minister that her daughter is a national gold medallist. She also said the young athlete had been waiting for some time for an opportunity to meet Sarma.

Sarma spoke to both of them before asking the mother to reach out to him if the family encountered any difficulties or needed assistance.

The interaction then took another small turn when Sarma noticed another girl filming the meeting on her phone. He asked who she was, and the mother explained that she was her other daughter.

“A truly unforgettable moment today as the Honorable Chief Minister of Assam, our very own Himanta Mama stopped to greet us on his way and graciously accepted our Gamusa. Deeply honoured and grateful for his warmth and humility,” reads the caption.
