Gave me triple talaq, threatened halala: Haridwar woman takes husband, in-laws to police

A Haridwar woman has accused her husband and in-laws of triple talaq, halala threats, assault and abuse. Police have filed a case under the triple talaq law and Uttarakhand UCC provisions and begun an inquiry.

A woman in Uttarakhand's Haridwar has filed a case against her husband and other members of her in-laws' family, accusing them of giving her triple talaq, threatening her with halala, assaulting and threatening to kill her.

The case was registered in Haridwar's Badshahpur area under provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, as well as relevant provisions of Uttarakhand's Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

CASE FILED UNDER TRIPLE TALAQ, UCC PROVISIONS

Haridwar Senior Susperintendent of Police (SSP) Navneet Singh Bhullar said the woman had accused her husband and other members of her in-laws' family of giving her triple talaq and threatening her with halala. "She has also made allegations of assault, abuse and threats to kill her," Bhullar said.

Police have invoked provisions of the triple talaq law and the UCC provisions relating to halala, besides sections dealing with abuse, assault and criminal intimidation. The SSP said the woman's husband is the main accused in the case.

WOMAN SI PROBING CASE

A woman sub-inspector has been assigned to the investigation, and police are examining the allegations. Bhullar said further action would be taken based on the facts that emerge during the probe.

The woman has accused several members of her husband's family who lived with her at her matrimonial home, police said.
