A South African woman died after allegedly jumping from the third-floor balcony of her flat during an Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) raid in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, police said on Thursday.
Officials said the operation was part of an ongoing investigation linked to a drug case busted in Burari, where an accused, identified as Frank Dashmond, had earlier been arrested.
His arrest eventually led an ANS team to raid a residential building in Swaroop Nagar and apprehend Romeo alias Sky. A search of his flat allegedly led to the recovery of around 30 grams of MDMA and 1.5 grams of heroin.
During the operation, police found that two African nationals were staying in separate flats on the third and fourth floors of the building.
According to officials, one of them, identified as Stella Pius, allegedly jumped from her balcony as the team entered the premises. She was taken to Burari Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
In another flat, police detained an African national identified as Martin Aaron. A key recovered from him was reportedly used to access a locked room inside Stella’s flat.
A search of that room led to the recovery of chemicals, laboratory glassware, beakers, pipes, weighing machines, and sacks containing suspected raw material.
Police said preliminary findings suggest the room was being used as a facility for the manufacture of methamphetamine and storage of synthetic drug-making material.
Further investigation into the drug case is underway with the Anti-Narcotics Squad of North district, while Swaroop Nagar police are conducting inquest proceedings into the woman’s death.
Authorities are also probing the wider network and supply chain linked to the suspected drug operation.
