The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Thursday arrested two men posing as Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTE), who were fraudulently checking tickets on trains plying on the Dimapur-Agaratala route between Nagaland to Tripura.

The two accused, identified as Hussain Ali and Kaushik Sarkar, were arrested after they were found checking tickets on passenger trains on the route.

According to RPF officials, Hussain Ali was checking tickets on 05676 Dimapur-Agartala passenger train. After observing his working style and mannerisms, Ajit Kumar Sarkar and Anjan Paul of the RPF, who were on escort duty on the train, grew suspicious of him.

The RPF jawans told Hussain Ali to show his identity card and the authority letter. He first said that he was a newly-appointed TTE and hence he was checking tickets. However, he later admitted that he was not carrying any documents of authorisation to this effect.

Cross verification was also done by the ticket-checking officer of Dimapur, who found Hussain Ali to be an impostor. Subsequently, Hussain Ali was arrested and sent to jail.

Meanwhile, senior TTE Subrajit Paul, working on passenger train number 05675 plying on the same section, caught Kaushik Sarkar after he grew suspicious of him.

Sarkar first said that he got a job with the railways as a ticket examiner, but he failed to show any kind of authority letter or identity card.

Following this, Subrajit Paul caught Sarkar and handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), who registered a case and arrested him.
