Mentally challenged woman attacked with stones in Delhi, drug-addicted man arrested

Delhi Police have arrested a 28-year-old man accused of attacking a homeless woman with stones in Trilokpuri. Investigators are examining possible sexual assault angles even as preliminary medical findings did not indicate rape.

A shocking case of brutality against a mentally challenged woman has emerged from East Delhi's Trilokpuri area, where a 28-year-old man allegedly assaulted her with stones, leaving her seriously injured. The accused, identified as Vishnu alias Vicky, has been arrested by Delhi Police.

According to police, the incident came to light on the morning of June 12 when a PCR call was received at the Mayur Vihar police station around 6:30 am regarding an injured woman lying near Block 27 in Trilokpuri. The information was immediately passed to a police team led by Sub-Inspector Naseem, which rushed to the spot.

However, by the time officers arrived, neither the injured woman nor the caller was present. The caller, later contacted by police, identified himself as a rickshaw puller and said he had already left after informing authorities.

During local inquiries, police learned that an ambulance had shifted the woman to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital. After extensive efforts, officers traced the victim and found that she had sustained facial injuries, including swelling and superficial wounds. Police sources said stones had allegedly been used to attack her, causing severe injuries to her face.

The victim was later identified as a mentally challenged homeless woman who is frequently seen wandering around the Block 27 area of Trilokpuri. Doctors informed investigators that although she is conscious, her intellectual disability has made it difficult for her to provide a coherent account of the incident.

Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams inspected the scene and collected evidence. Initially, a case was registered under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the basis of the medical examination, which indicated physical assault.

As the investigation progressed, police identified and arrested Vishnu alias Vicky. Officials said the accused was heavily intoxicated when apprehended and is allegedly addicted to drugs.

Police sources said the victim's preliminary medical examination did not indicate rape. However, given the circumstances of the attack, investigators have also invoked provisions related to sexual assault and molestation while continuing to probe the case.

Further investigation is underway, and police are examining all aspects of the incident.
