A man in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal threw a petrol bomb into the house of a young woman after she refused to marry him, in an apparent case of one-sided love.

The attack triggered panic in the locality and sparked a fire inside the house, damaging household belongings, including a refrigerator.

According to ACP Shailendra Singh Chauhan, the 24-year-old woman's marriage was fixed with a man after which the accused, Arbaz alias Bhaiyu, began pressuring her to marry him. The woman had already rejected his proposal, but Arbaz continued to follow her and threaten her.

Two days before the incident, Arbaz went to the woman's house in the morning and again threatened her. The woman immediately informed the police. The accused left after the police were alerted, but he continued to threaten her over the phone.

Arbaz also allegedly threatened to kill the woman's fiance.

Later that day, at around 5 pm, the woman was standing outside her house with her sister-in-law when Arbaz returned. He threw a stone at her bike and damaged it. Then he threw a petrol bomb inside the house and fled.

The petrol bomb landed in the kitchen and ignited a fire. The flames quickly spread to household belongings, burning and damaging a refrigerator and other domestic items worth thousands of rupees.

After receiving information about the incident, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot. They brought the fire under control after considerable effort.

The woman subsequently filed a complaint, based on which police registered a case against Arbaz alias Bhaiyu. The accused remains absconding, and police are conducting searches at possible locations to trace him.
