A 23-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his stepfather to death after he reportedly tried to attack his mother with a pair of scissors in a state of drunkenness near Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Uday Kumar, has been arrested by the police in connection with the killing. His stepfather, 53-year-old Sridhar, was allegedly hit on the head several times with a wooden stick and a motorcycle shock absorber rod.
According to the police, Sridhar and Deena, 42, had been married for nearly 22 years. While he was originally from Tamil Nadu, Deena hails from Uttar Pradesh. The couple lived in a rented house on the outskirts of Bengaluru along with Uday, and his two step-siblings.
Sridhar, who was a journalist by profession, purportedly had a drinking habit and would frequently quarrel under the influence of alcohol and beat Deena.
The situation, however, turned uglier than usual on Tuesday evening, August 18, when an inebriated Sridhar allegedly picked up a pair of scissors in an attempt to attack Deena.
Uday intervened and allegedly struck Sridhar multiple times on the head, first with a wooden stick and then with a motorcycle shock absorber.
The alleged assault is said to have led Sridhar to sustain serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died during treatment.
A murder case has been filed by the police. Following the registration of the FIR, Sridhar's body was sent for post-mortem examination.
The investigators are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the sequence of events leading to the death.
