Kalahandi: In a shocking incident, the bodies of a young couple who had been missing for five days were recovered from the hilltop of Bhandar Dongari near Behera in Kalahandi district on Thursday.

The circumstances surrounding their deaths have raised suspicions of possible foul play, prompting police to investigate whether the case involves suicide or murder.

The deceased have been identified as Ajit Kumar Naik of Tendapali village under Kokasara police station limits and Priyadarshini Naik of Kendmundipada in Dharmagarh town.

The two were reportedly in a relationship and had gone missing on the night of October 17, during the Durga Puja period.

Following their disappearance, their respective families lodged missing complaints at Kokasara and Dharmagarh police stations.

According to reports, the bodies were discovered on Thursday morning when some local residents went into the forest to collect firewood. The bodies were reportedly in a decomposed condition. Claims that bloodstains were present on the bodies and that both victims’ hands were tied behind their backs have further intensified suspicions surrounding the incident.

These reported circumstances have raised questions about whether the couple were murdered and their bodies subsequently hung from trees to make the deaths appear to be a suicide. However, the allegations remain unverified, and the exact cause and manner of death have not yet been established.

Dharmagarh police have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths.

Further details are awaited as investigation is underway.
