IMD issues heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for Odisha as depression intensifies into deep depression over BoB

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that the depression over Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression on Monday. The deep depression is likely to cross the Odisha-West Bengal coast between Balasore and West Bengal by afternoon today.

The deep depression has gradually moved northwards at a speed of 3 kmph during the last 6 hours and has intensified further. It was centered about 40 km south of Sagar island. It will move north-northwestwards towards the coast.

The deep depression is likely to cross the north Odisha-West Bengal coast between Paradip and Sagar Island around today afternoon.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy downpours across most districts. Under the influence of the deep depression, heavy to very heavy rainfall in most places and scattered very heavy rainfall is expected at some places of Odisha.

Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Chhattisgarh today along with extremely heavy rainfall at some places. There is also a possibility of very heavy rainfall at some places in Gangetic West Bengal.

The IMD has forecasted that theheavy rainfall will persist across the state until July 29.

Meanwhile, several districts in Odisha has closed classes in schools in view of the heavy rainfall in the regions.
