China: A Chinese court has jailed former defense official Zhang Jianhua for 10 years over receiving more than 43 million yuan ($6 million) worth of bribes.
The court confiscated his illicit income as part of the sentence.
Chinese authorities said Zhang has abused his powers to seek advantages for others in exchange of substantial amount of money.

The case was investigated under China’s anti-corruption laws before being brought to trial.
The conviction is the latest in President Xi Jinping’s anti-graft operation, which has led to the investigation, dismissal and prosecution of numerous high-ranking military and defense officers in the last 10 years.
Officials in China said the operation is to enhance discipline and accountability among the military and government officials, while critics have claimed that the crackdown has been employed as tool in political maneuvering for the consolidation of power.
