Bhubaneswar: Vigilance nabs Keshari Nagar RI while taking bribe

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance apprehended Niranjan Singh, the Revenue Inspector (RI) of Keshari Nagar Circle in Bhubaneswar while demanding and taking bribe.
Vigilance sleuths nabbed the Revenue Inspector while he was taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an applicant to process and forward the enquiry report for facilitating issuance of legal heir certificate in his favour following his death of mother and younger brother.
The applicant had applied online on September 9, 2026 submitting all necessary documents required for obtaining a legal heir certificate. Following submitting application, the applicant met 3/4 times the RI concerned to forward the enquiry report to the competent authority to get the above certificate.
Despite repeated requests by the applicant, the accused RI was delaying the process for no reason and demanded bribe Rs 5,000 to forward his application online to the officer concerned. He was rather insisting on taking bribe from the applicant. Feeling aggrieved, the applicant (complainant) approached the vigilance authorities.

Based on the complaint, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Singh today while taking Rs 5,000 bribe from the complainant as per latter’s instructions.
Following the trap, searches are being conducted by Odisha Vigilance at two locations connected to Sri Singh, RI from DA angle.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 22 dtd. 03.09.2026 u/s 7 P.C. by P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against the RI.
