United Kingdom: Andy Burnham is to be installed as the next Prime Minister of the UK next week having been elected leader of the governing Labour Party.

He is to officially be put into his new role after an audience with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace taking over from Sir Keir Starmer.

The Labour MP swept to victory with the support of a vast majority of his fellow lawmakers and will take the country’s highest political office since Labour has a parliamentary majority and a snap general election is not necessary.

Burnham, the former Health Secretary and Mayor of Greater Manchester, is regarded as one of Labour’s best communicators and has pledged to devolve power to local authorities and rebuild public trust.

The announcement comes weeks after Sir Keir was forced out under mounting political pressure from within the Labour Party.

He is likely to reveal his new Cabinet imminently having been given the reigns in anticipation of the next general election by 2029.
