Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s School and Mass Education Department has launched an intensive five-day vocational training programme for over 170 Class XII students and vocational lecturers from Government Vocational Higher Secondary Schools, running from October 12 through October 16.
Unlike several states where high school vocational studies remain largely theoretical or restricted to basic crafts, Odisha has partnered directly with specialized central institutes to deliver industry-grade practical exposure across four streams: Drone Pilot (DP), Audio-Visual Training (AVT), and Catering and Restaurant Management.
The cohort is split across two flagship centres:

Central Tool Room and Training Centre (CTTC): Delivers technical training to attendees from nine districts—Angul, Debagada, Jajpur, Kataka, Baleshwar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, and Puri.
Institute of Hotel Management (IHM): Hosts hospitality training for cohorts from five districts—Bhadrak, Koraput, Kandhamala, Khordha, and Ganjam.
At CTTC, Additional Director Binita Senapati (Directorate of Higher Secondary Education) emphasized that hands-on technical training gives secondary school students a competitive edge in the job market before graduation, backed by CTTC Senior Manager (Training) K. M. Rajan.
At IHM, Regional Director (Eastern Region) Pranab Prakash and Principal Sharada Ghosh inaugurated the hospitality track. Deputy Director Jitendra Nayak and Research Assistant Smitarekha Mohanty attended both inaugural events, with Nayak stressing that institutional tie-ups with apex facilities like CTTC and IHM are essential to scaling high-impact technical skills across Odisha’s public education system.
