New Delhi: Excessive monsoon showers lashed parts of the hilly regions of Arunachal Pradesh and led to flash floods in the remote Parsi Parlo border town of Kurung Kumey district.

It started causing heavy damage to the public infrastructure and homes.

Flash floods also hit the districts of Kamle and Pakke Kessang after the Kumey River flooded following overnight rains, reported the district authorities.

A church was among the worst-hit structures in Parsi Parlo that was swept away by strong flood currents.

Multiple houses, government buildings, and schools have also been damaged, while a bridge linking Huri to Damin has also been washed away, severing communication to various rural areas.

According to the district administration, the floodwaters reached Parsi Parlo in the early morning, and people had to be evacuated to safer locations.

Heavy rainfall also caused soil erosion and landslides, making it challenging for rescue efforts.

Emergency personnel are closely watching the flood situation while an assessment is underway to determine the damage caused by the downpour.

No human losses have been confirmed to the media by the authorities so far.
