Heavy rain submerges Sapua Bridge in Athagada, over 10 villages cut off

Athagada: Flood like conditions have occurred in Athagarh of Odisha’s Kataka district following continued downpour triggered by a low-pressure system.

As per reports, the Sapua Bridge near Naduapada on Old Kataka-Sambalpur Road is submerged under around two feet of water, leaving vehicular traffic on the busy road halted.

Athagada police personnel have arrived on the scene and are closely monitoring the situation.

They are not allowing vehicular movement on the road to ensure safety of the commuters.

Many sections of the Old Kataka-Sambalpur Road are under two to three feet of water, which has disrupted connectivity to as many as 10 villages including Karakamal of Kulailo Panchayat, Ichhapur, Gudupada and Muktadeipur of Ichhapur Panchayat, Haripur of Mahakalabasta Panchayat and Dahisara along with areas of Samsarpur Panchayat.

People of many villages have abandoned their houses to move to the school building and safe places in the wake of flood water entering their residential premises.

Local administration has begun rescue and relief operations to shift people from the flood-affected areas.

Late on Thursday night, Athagada MLA went to visit the flood-affected villages riding on a tractor, discussed the problem with the affected villagers and promised all kind of help.
