Bhubaneswar: The threat of a fresh low-pressure system bringing heavy rainfall to Odisha during Dussehra has weakened, bringing relief to puja organisers and devotees according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea has weakened, reducing the chances of a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal.
However, light to moderate rain may continue in parts of coastal and southern Odisha over the next three days, added IMD.
On October 14, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in parts of 17 districts, including Kataka, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Baleswar and Koraput. Other districts are likely to remain mainly dry.

On October 15, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. A yellow warning has been issued for these five districts.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is gradually withdrawing from Odisha, while conditions are becoming favourable for the onset of the northeast monsoon over southern India.
