New Delhi: UP forms new SIT headed by 3 senior IPS officers to probe alleged donation theft in Ayodhya Ram Temple

The state government has reconstituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by three senior IPS officers, to probe the alleged theft of donations in the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

The formation of the team is in the wake of the Supreme Court ordering a new high-level probe in the case.

The new SIT team would be led by Inspector General Kiran S, and it would also include DIG Somen Verma and SSP Dr Gaurav Grover.

Earlier, the Apex Court had shown concern over the previous probe into the donations case and had requested the government to form an independent SIT team with experienced police officers.

The case revolves around the allegations that cash donations given to the temple in Ayodhya ’s’ Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir went missing during counting and depositing of these cash donations by employees at the time of deposit in Banks.

Based on these allegations, many arrests have been made in the past in this case.

Investigators in the past were reportedly trying to verify donations by looking at available CCTC visuals and other financial records.

The apex court on Tuesday also said that it will oversee the investigation and warned both the centre and the UP government from politicizing the matter related to the probe on stolen donations at Ram Temple.

Meanwhile, for better transparency, the Ram Temple Trust has placed personnel deputed to manage the transactions through SBI to prevent theft of donations.
