PM Modi Thanks Qatar Amir for Condolences over Ras Laffan Blast That Killed 12 Indians

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for his phone call and condolences over the loss of Indian lives in the tragic accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Posting on X, PM Modi said, “I thank the Amir of Qatar for his phone call and condolences on the loss of lives of Indian nationals in the tragic accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar. We both share the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured. India and Qatar remain steadfast in their commitment to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our citizens and stand in solidarity with each other.”

The Ras Laffan accident: The explosion occurred on Sunday night, June 21, at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City during start-up operations. QatarEnergy and the Ministry of Interior said a “technical malfunction” triggered the blast and subsequent fire, killing 13 people and injuring 66 others.

Qatari authorities confirmed that 12 of the 13 deceased were Indian nationals. The 13th was a Pakistani national. The injured include citizens of Qatar, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria and Nepal.
